Bobby D. was born and raised in Lindenhurst, New York. At age 17, after the death of his father, he moved to sunny Florida to attend Eckerd College in St. Petersburg. Bobby D. played baseball at Eckerd, serving as team captain in his senior year. After graduating from Eckerd with a BA in Liberal Arts, he traveled to Holland, where he played professional baseball for several months.
Upon returning home, Bobby D. began his career as an entrepreneur. He started a window treatment business, while also pursuing a career in talk radio, where he discussed political issues in the sports world. In 1992, Bobby D. took a hiatus from the business world in order to work as a case manager/behavior associate at Goodwill Industries, Suncoast, working with developmentally disabled adults.
After suffering an injury on the job in 1996, Bobby D. moved to Marion County, where he opened a window treatment business with his wife, Christine, which they aptly named, “Mr. and Mrs. Blindmaster.” Mr. and Mrs. Blindmaster has been in business since 1996, and the company has grown to include Bobby D. and Christine’s 10 children. In addition to selling and installing blinds and shutters, Bobby D. also hosted a conservative talk radio show, the “Bobby D. Show,” from 2001 to 2013.
When not busy working, Bobby D. has volunteered his time at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, running a monthly spaghetti dinner and annual Thanksgiving dinner for approximately 20 years. He has also served on boards at both Queen of Peace and St. Theresa Catholic Church in Belleview, and he is a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bobby D. has been a volunteer Little League coach since 2008, he coaches the American Legion Post 284 baseball team, he is a member of the Sons of the American Legion, and he serves on the Executive Board of Directors of Goodwill Suncoast Industries, a multi-million dollar non-profit organization. Bobby D. also served on the Marion County Parks and Recreation Board.
Bobby D. has spent the past 25 years getting to know the citizens of Marion County. He has a lifetime of hands-on, blue-collar business experience, as well as a keen knowledge of political issues. Bobby D. is a fiscal and social conservative, and a strong pro-life advocate, who will work hard for the people of our county!
